17-355 Large Intrusive Mound Point

17-355 Large Intrusive Mound Point point made from black Coshocton-Upper Mercer chert. The name “Intrusive Mound” was coined for the Late Woodland culture that had a curious practice of burying there dead in old Adena and Hopewell mounds. There points had distinctive styles and came in two sizes, large for atl-atl dart points and knife blades and small for arrow points. Apparently, both weapon systems were in use during this period.  This specimen is one of the larger ones. Length, 2 15/16 inches. Price, $15.
