26-75 LOBE BASE SERRATED POINT made from Sunrise Mine Powers II heat treated agate. The piece I made this from had crack filled with a chalk-like inclusion that kept stopping the flakes, so I ended up with this narrow serrated point to get past that impediment. Size, 2 1/2 inches. Price, $15.
The Sunrise Mine Powers II Site is on private land in Platte County, Wyoming. It is a Paleo site located near an abandoned iron ore mine and includes an ancient red ochre mine, workshop, and nearby lithic source. In 2017 I was sent samples of the material and asked to do a workability assay. The report and finished points were sent to George Frison of the University of Wyoming, the land owner, and others. After that I had just a few chips left and they promised me more. Last year I received some sizable chunks of the tough agate. When spalled there was enough blanks to fill my turkey roaster. After cooking at 400 degrees for 12 hours the material came out glossy and translucent when held up to the light. To get the most out of it I'm not forcing it into just Paleo pieces, I will be making whatever the rock gives me. I'm keeping a few points for myself and will be making a limited number available on this site. When it's gone, it's gone!
