19-278 GUNTHER -ROGUE RIVER POINT made from heat treated Hole-in-the-wall agate from Nevada. This rare and very distinctive material was first noticed in 1990 by Dr. R.M. Gramly from a single specimen, a side scraper found in the Richey Clovis Cache, East Wenatchee, Washington, and later a Clovis point found in Nebraska, and a Hopewell point found in the GE Mound, Posie County, Indiana were also identified. The source of the raw material was located in Churchill County, Nevada and a mining claim was filed by the discoverer who provided me with a small sample for testing knapping qualities. This year Gramly made a visit to the claim and collected more samples, mostly lumps and decortication flakes left by prehistoric miners, and on his way home he stopped in at my place and left with me a second small batch of this beautiful, translucent, yellow agate for my further testing. Therefore, I will be making a limited number of points available on this site. Also, be sure to look for Gramly's upcoming article about this material in the Prehistoric American. Length, 1 1/2 inches. Price, $20.
