THE
COMPLETE CHIPS ARCHIVES AND 20th CENTURY LITHICS THREE DISC SET! A must-have
2000 page reference for all knappers and serious students of the craft! Mound Builder
Books first venture into publishing periodicals was 20th Century Lithics in
1988. It was to be a biannual featuring in-depth articles on flintknapping. It
only saw one issue printed before we took over Ray Harwood's Flint Knapping
Digest in 1989 and renamed it CHIPS. This was to be the newsletter
for the newly formed “Flintknapper’s Guild International.” The guild never took
off, however, CHIPS survived because at that time it effectively served
the knapping community. By the late ‘90s the number of subscribers was near
1200! From then on the decline in subscriptions was slow with the loss of Val
Waldorf and Dane Martin who were major contributors on the CHIPS staff,
the economy, and the rise of the internet, all contributing, the magazine
ceased regular publication at the end of 2011. Because flint working is
governed by physical laws and what worked a thousand years ago still works
today the information in the hundreds of CHIPS articles is still
relevant. With this in mind, D.C. Waldorf, the founder and Chief Editor,
decided to open the file cabinets that contained the original materiel and
begin the “CHIPS digital archive project” which took almost a year to
complete! The magazines have been restored to their
as-close-to-originally-printed condition as was possible and are accessible to
anyone who has a computer that can read CD data discs. Each page can be viewed
as a JGP photo and then printed if desired. Also, in this format many of the
photos appear in color, and using the zoom tool can be seen in much greater
detail! In the 2000 pages nothing has been left out! It's all here, from
the great articles by well known knappers, to prose, poetry, hilarious
cartoons, knap-in announcements, advertisements and more, plus the 100 pages of
20th Century Lithics, CHIPS predecessor. Three disc set, $30.
