25-393 DIAGONAL BASAL NOTCH POINT Made from heat treated Arkansas Novaculite. In this Late Archaic type the notches are cut into the base diagonally instead of straight up. This point could be classed as a Casrtoville type. Even after heat treating at a higher temp than what was usually obtainable under a campfire, this material has a bad reputation for stepping and hang-nailing, thus it is hard to chip clean. I chip mine cleaner than most because I know the trick, that is to chip it thin, but not too thin, using open support so the flakes feather out into thin air. Therefore no stepping, or very little.
