About Posters and Prints by Valerie Waldorf

The late Valerie Waldorf [1954-2005] was an all-around artist that had amassed a considerable body of work in watercolor, acrylic, scrimshaw, and sculpture before she became famous for her ink line illustrations of chipped stone artifacts that first appeared in The Art Of Flintknapping, Story In Stone books, and a 24 x 36 inch wall poster,
The Best From Story In Stone. After the success of these first books, and the poster, the remainder of her career was mostly devoted to artifact illustrations for later publications by D.C. Waldorf and others. 10 years after her passing D.C. created a new 24 x 18 inch poster, Ancient Flint Masterpieces Illustrated by Valerie Waldorf, featuring 20 drawings which he considered to be some of her finest that spanned her 25 years as an illustrator of archaeological material. Before the ever-popular Best From Story In Stone poster, from 1982 to 1984, we
made and sold several prints off paintings Val did. The first four were printed in black and white because we couldn’t afford color at the time, and the originals were actually painted in black and white acrylic! Anywhere from 1000 to 500 copies were made, and some sold better than others at rendezvous and black powder shoots we used to attend before quitting those and switching to knap-ins. During that period Val’s attempts to break into a mostly male-dominated field met with little success, and out of bitterness one day she ordered D.C. to destroy the remaining prints we had stored in the garage. Well, he burned most of them, but not all! What was left he later moved to a steel cabinet in her old studio and now they are available once again. After lying around in storage for 30 plus years they are still in pretty good condition with a few having some discoloration on the white edges which can be covered by a matt when framed. Also, keep in mind these prints are better than the pictures taken of them and you can have them for the same price they originally sold for!
